Read: Galatians 4
Big Idea: In chapter 4, the Apostle Paul writes about our spiritual liberty as Christians. He illustrates bondage versus freedom by comparing two women from a single Old Testament story. Abraham’s mistress, Hagar, represents our spiritual slavery before we believed. Abraham’s wife, Sarah, represents the newfound liberty we have by faith as the true bride of Christ. All of this began to be accomplished when God sent Jesus to be born of a woman to redeem His chosen ones in Israel. We get the benefit of being adopted into God’s family because of what Jesus had done for us.
Key Verse(s):
Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, Galatians 4:5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
